Target Details
- Target: CD44v3-10-Fc
- Target background: Monoclonal antibody directed against CD44v4/5, strongly expressed on metastatic breast cancer cells. Background and Research Application CD44 is an integral cell membrane glycoprotein that binds to hyaluronan and is involved in matrix adhesion, lymphocyte activation, and lymph node homing. The CD44 protein is expressed as a family of molecular isoforms generated from alternative RNA splicing and posttranslational modifications. CD44 is expressed on multiple cell types and is involved in multiple functions including cell-cell interactions and cell-extracellular matrix binding. CD44 participates in a wide variety of cellular functions including lymphocyte activation, recirculation and homing, haematopoiesis, and tumour metastasis. Hyaluronan, a high molecular weight polysaccharide component of the extracellular matrix acts as the principal ligand for the CD44 receptor. Human CD44v4/5 is specific for CD44 protein isoforms containing human variant exons 4 and 5. Metastatic breast cancer cells strongly express a ÄËĂÂ?170 kD CD44 variant 4 (CD44v4).
