Target Details

  • Target: Connexin 32 (Cx32 or ?1)
  • Target molecular weight: 46 kDa
  • Target background: Connexins are a large family of proteins which form gap junctions. Gap junctions are cell membrane structures that facilitate direct cell-cell communication. Gap junctions are essential for various physiological processes, including coordinated depolarization of cardiac muscle, proper embryonic development, and the conducted response in microvasculature. Gap junction communication has been implicated in the patterning and development of vertebrate embryos. Individual connexins show complex spatial and temporal variation in expression patterns. This variation contributes to the control of intercellular signalling. Mutations in connexin 32 are linked to Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease X-linked type 1 (CMTX1), the most commonly inherited disorder of the peripheral nervous system.
