- Description: Non-tumorigenic immortalized breast epithelial cell stably overexpressing mutant cancer-related genes. TP53 (tumor protein p53). TP53 is a cancer suppressor gene responding to stimuli and damage of DNA that serves to protect normal cells by repairing DNA and regulating proliferation. Its mutations are found in 50% of all cancers. It is said that the mutated TP53 gene loses its original function to protect cells and cause the accumulation of gene mutations, apoptosis avoidance and abnormal proliferation of cells. Most of the mutations are concentrated in the DNA-binding region and mutations of R248, R273, R175 and R249 are representative mutations. All of these mutations are known to impact the transformation ability in cooperation with activated RAS.
