  • Description: Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) has been identified as the causative agent of Kaposi's sarcoma, the most common malignancy in HIV-infected individuals. KSHV has also been shown to be be associated with two lymphoproliferative diseases (Fu et al., 2015). Open reading frame 38 (ORF38) (tegument) is a gene associated with the late lytic viral life cycle of KSHV. This anti-ORF38 (tegument) was generated using a baculovirus-synthesized ORF38 as an antigen. ORF38 has been shown to be a critical binding partner for ORF33. The interaction of ORF33 and ORF38 plays an important role in the transport of newly assembled viral particles through vesicles. ORF38 has been shown experimentally to be an abundant tegument protein and a critical virion component. Conserved interaction between ORF33 and ORF38 homologues plays critical roles in the production of progeny virions but are not essential for viral gene expression.
