  • Description: TOM1-like1 (TOM1-L1) is a member of the TOM1 protein family consisting of TOM1 and TOM1-like2 (TOM1-L2). TOM1-L1 is known to be associated with proteins belonging to the Src family of protein-tyrosine kinases. It has been found to be tyrosine phosphorylated by Src and Fyn which mediates its interaction with the signaling molecules Grb2 and PI3K p85 subunit. Its role in Src signal transduction is further defined in a report where TOM1-L1 was found to be a negative regulator of Src-receptor activation and downstream DNA synthesis in the presence of PDGF. The potential involvement of TOM1-L1 in the endocytosis pathway is suggested by a recent finding that TOM1-L1 is associated with Hrs and TSG101. TOM1L1 is a protein involved in transport and signal transduction. TOM1L1, together with Tollip plays an important role in recruiting clathrin onto endosomes. Clathrin is known to be a protein that is involved in the creation of vesicles (membrane-bound transport packages) in cells. It forms a polyhedral (soccer-ball-shaped) lattice made up of many clathrin molecules that coats a new vesicle as it forms and helps in protein and lipid trafficking.
